the arts

When I decided, 3 years out of high school, to go back to college for an art, there was much to consider. Never having dabbled in photography, it was one of the options not considered. I liked the idea of vehicle design, of creating something that people use every day and designing a thing that could potentially inspire as a moving work of art, and be practical as well as technically functional... I did some research on it, and I visited the Academy of Art College in SanFran on my trip. It occurred to me that while transportation design is something I have interest in, I wouldn't want to do it every day. The point of pursuing a career, especially after a short stint in computing, a soulless, uninspiring field, is to find a thing you truly enjoy doing every day you get up to work, or at least for about 40 years.
And so I concluded that I should pursue an art. Painting and writing came to mind, drawing and comic art, which I have always had a pension for, albeit little training in. And at AAC, I was shown something that was there all along: filmmaking. While I enjoy and have enjoyed painting and sketching/drawing and sculpture, and damnit if I don't make some really nice (which is to say ugly yet functional) furniture out of scrap wood, storytelling and the impression of escapism is a constant theme in all of the things I create. That's the answer.
After I began schooling in film, I discovered something that is additionally intense: photography. While I'm not good at it yet, I enjoy the idea of capturing a moment, it becomes dynamic in its trap. It's definitely a new love. If you would be willing to let me take your photo, let me know. I don't know where I would take it or how it would come out, but I'm tricky.
